I’ve been sober for ten years. It was a rough road, but now I’m happy and healthy, and I have a great life. But when I wake up in the morning and start my day, there’s one thing I always do: pray.

Prayer has always been important to me. It’s what got me through my addiction and continues to help me stay sober today. Prayer is also one of the best ways you can help yourself or your loved ones who might be struggling with addiction. Here are some ideas on how to use prayer as part of your recovery process:

  • Use prayer as a way to ask God for guidance and support with your recovery process
  • Ask God to give you clarity about what choices will lead you in the right direction
  • Pray for others who are struggling with addiction.

Churchgists will provide you with all the relevant information you are looking for on al anon prayers, al anon daily affirmations, al anon readings for meetings, and so much more.

My mother always used to say that when you can’t get rid of the family skeleton, you may as well make it dance. I never really knew what it meant until I found Al-Anon, a support group for friends and family members of alcoholics. It taught me to pray for peace in many ways, but especially through the Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr. The prayer is simple and easy to remember, which helps me get through difficult situations at home or work where I need calm rather than stress. Find out more about this spiritual practice below!

Just for today, I will have a program. I will try to follow the direction that I find in our literature, and I will try to get a sponsor so that my program can be more structured.

You can get started on a program by getting literature from Al-Anon. You can find it at meetings and in your local library. This will show you how to do a fourth step inventory, how to take action steps and how to share with others. If you want more structure in your life, having a sponsor can be very helpful. A sponsor is someone who will guide you through the steps of the program and help keep you accountable for doing them daily. Having a sponsor will give you an extra level of support for staying sober as well as provide accountability for working on building healthy relationships with yourself and other people at Al-Anon meetings every day!

Just for today, I will not worry.

Worry is a negative habit.

Worry leads to anxiety and anxiety is the root of all ill health, disease and pain. Worry is an addiction that steals your faith in God and puts fear in its place. It destroys your peace of mind, drains all the joy out of life and can lead to depression, suicide or death from overeating or lack of sleep. Worry comes from a lack of trust in God’s power, wisdom and love for you. It’s not faith: it’s fear!

Just for today, I will drink no alcohol.

Alcohol is a problem. It’s not a solution to the problems you have, but it is one of those problems. It’s not the problem itself; it’s just another symptom of your deeper issues. When you drink alcohol, you’re trying to solve a problem that doesn’t need solving—and drinking alcohol only makes things worse for yourself and everyone around you.

If this sounds like something that applies to your life right now, know that there is hope! You can stop drinking alcohol if you work hard enough at it, but sometimes it takes help from others who have been in similar situations before: Al Anon meetings are held throughout the world every day so people can talk about their experiences with addiction and recovery together in an environment where they’ll feel safe sharing their struggles without judgment or stigma attached (because all addicts have problems).

Al Anon meetings don’t offer solutions; they provide support while members figure out how best to tackle their own personal situations on their own terms

Just for today, I will accept frustration as a part of life.

Frustration is a fact of life. No matter how hard you try to avoid it, there will be times when you feel like giving up, or when things don’t go your way and cause you a lot of stress.

We all have to deal with frustration. It’s important that we learn how to manage our reactions to frustration so that the difficult situation doesn’t escalate into something worse than it could have been.

When I feel frustrated, I must acknowledge my anger and then try not react hastily by losing control over myself or others around me. Instead of reacting impulsively with anger or resentment at being placed in an uncomfortable position, I will try more positively by accepting the challenge before me without giving into despair or giving up hope on what may happen next in my life journey towards recovery from addiction

Just for today, I will dedicate myself to tranquility.

  • Just for today, I will dedicate myself to tranquility.
  • I will not think about yesterday or tomorrow.
  • Today is enough for me: my body, my mind and the world around me.
  • Today is a gift from God; I must be grateful and enjoy it fully.

Just for today, I will admit when I am wrong and take steps immediately to correct it.

When you are wrong, admit it. It does not matter how small or how big the mistake was. It does not matter who was involved in your mistake or the circumstances surrounding it. All that matters is that you take responsibility for your actions, apologize to those affected by them, and correct the problem as best you can.

This may sound like an easy thing to do but trust me when I tell you that it’s not always easy to step up and be honest with ourselves when we have done something wrong! In fact, sometimes it’s downright painful or embarrassing! But if we want people around us (including ourselves) to respect our honesty then this is one way we show them how much integrity we have about being truthful regardless of what others might think about us being wrong or making mistakes; because admitting when someone else is wrong is often far more difficult than admitting when YOU are wrong yourself!!

Just for today, I will practice acceptance and tolerance of those around me.

  • Acceptance: feelings of the heart, accepting people for who they are.
  • Tolerance: to bear or put up with something that you do not like or agree with.

Just for today, I will improve my conscious-contact with God by praying only for knowledge of God’s will and the power to carry that out each day.

Just for today, I will improve my conscious-contact with God by praying only for knowledge of God’s will and the power to carry that out each day.

To pray is to seek a conscious contact with God, who loves you and wants you to be happy. You can help yourself in this by remembering these ideas:

  • Prayer is important because it gives us an opportunity to talk directly with God. Most people have some kind of relationship with someone or something else in their lives – parents or children, friends or co-workers or pets – but we usually don’t talk directly with them about our problems and concerns as much as we should (or they would like). So prayer is one way that we can make sure that we are communicating well enough so that whatever difficulties may come along won’t catch us unaware – instead allowing us time beforehand to figure out what our options are so we’re better prepared when trouble does strike! Asking for things such as forgiveness from wrongdoings before they happen also helps ensure peace between ourselves and others;

Just for today, I will be unafraid.

  • Be unafraid to accept the help of others.
  • Be unafraid to ask for help.
  • Be unafraid to try something new.
  • Be unafraid to say no when you really mean it, and say yes when you’re not sure what else to do; after all, sometimes saying nothing at all is the best way forward!
  • Laugh with others—and about yourself—to keep things light and fun, even during hard times; if nothing else, laughter does wonders for your mental health!

Just for today, I will take it easy on myself.

Just for today, I will take it easy on myself.

  • I give myself permission to relax and not push myself too hard.
  • Today, I won’t be a perfectionist or worry about what others think of me.

al anon prayers

Dear God,

I am powerless and my life is unmanageable without your help and guidance.
I come to you today because I believe
that You can restore and anew me to meet my needs today.
Since I cannot manage my life and affairs,
I have decided to give them to You.
I put my life, my will, my thoughts,
my desires and ambitions in Your hands.
I give You all of me: the good and the bad,
the character defects and shortcomings,
my selfishness, resentments and problems.
I know that You will work them out in accordance with Your plan.
Such as I am, take and use me in Your service.
Guide and direct my ways and show me what to do for You.
I cannot control or change my friends or loved ones,
so I release them into Your care
for Your loving hands to do with as You will.
Just keep me loving and free from judging them.
If they need changing, God You’ll have to do it; I can’t.
Just make me willing and ready to be of service to You,
to have my shortcomings removed, and to do my best.
Help me to see how I have harmed others
and make me willing to make amends to them all.
Keep me ever mindful of thoughts and actions that harm myself and others,
and which separate me from Your light, love and spirit.
And when I commit these errors,
make me aware of them and help me to admit each one promptly.
I am seeking to know You better,
to love You more.
I am seeking the knowledge of Your will for me
and the power to carry it out.
Lord, teach me patience,
and remind me that it is hard work,
but well worth the labor.
Guide me in all I do to remember that
waiting is the answer to some of my prayers,
and that when I need You,
You will be there to help me.
